Institution Profile

A brand new heritage trail exploring Arran’s landscapes through the eyes of artists inspired by them. The Isle of Arran
has been a locus of creativity for many iconic past artists and in collaboration with members of the local community, twenty locations have been identified to establish an island wide Arts Heritage Trail. The trail aims to celebrate and document this rich cultural heritage for current and future generations. The trail website holds an extensive database of artists and artworks and seeks to ensure and explore the underrepresentation of women artists and forward their often
marginalised histories and creativity.

Collection Interests

The women represented by the Arran Arts Heritage Trail and database include Mary Armour, Ann Banks, Joan Eardley, Jessie M King, Agnes Miller Parker, Alison Prince, Margot Sandeman, Dechi Wango, Katherine Wingate and many more. The broad reach and longevity of Jessie M King’s summer school at High
Corrie provides a rich area of research, as does the culture of freedom of expression encountered by women artists inspired by Arran. Where did/does
this route itself? Connections and links to GSA and Glasgow’s early 20th century painters/artists are also of interest.
