Today sees the opening of not one but two Joan Eardley exhibitions as part of the Eardley 100 celebrations.
The Hunterian open the first instalment of their contribution to the centenary with Celebrating Joan Eardley where thirteen of Eardley’s works on paper from the Hunterian’s collection will take centre stage. The second instalment, which opens in autumn, will focus on Eardley’s paintings and highlight ongoing research being undertaken by Technical Art History postgraduate students from the University of Glasgow.
The exhibition is free but you are required to book online in advance. Please do so via this link.
For those of you in Edinburgh, The Scottish Gallery’s Joan Eardley | Centenary presents a chance to see a selection of her most celebrated works, including some from private collections which have never been exhibited.
A tapestry interpretation of Eardley’s Catterline landscape July Fields woven by Dovecot Studio’s Master Weaver forms part of the exhibition and will be the subject of a special online talk between Scottish Gallery Director Christina Jensen, Anne Morrison-Hudson (Joan Eardley’s niece), and Dovecot’s Master Weaver Naomi Robertson. In fact, this is just one of a series of online events, tours, films and talks taking place throughout August which you can register for here.
And if that wasn’t enough, a beautifully illustrated publication has been produced to accompany the exhibition and can be bought directly from the gallery shop.
August looks to be another exciting month for us all and we’re all looking forward to finally visiting some real life exhibitions!
